# History and Ethnography Museum Târgu Neamț

The museum occupies the Princely School building (1852), the oldest school in Târgu Neamț, where Ion Creangă studied; it is a listed monument.

The museum occupies the Princely School building (1852), the oldest school in Târgu Neamț, where Ion Creangă studied; it is a listed monument. Founded in 1957 as the 'Stephen the Great' District Museum, it became a history and ethnography museum in 1985–1986, and the current permanent exhibition opened in 2012. It shows evidence of prehistoric salt exploitation, Cucuteni, Dacian and medieval finds, as well as the traditional crafts of the sub-Carpathian area. An outdoor ethnographic pavilion houses large traditional installations.
